Great Reads from Waters Agency
By Sylvie Picard, Account Coordinator
On April 23rd, the world celebrated World Book Day, a day to promote the love of reading and celebrate the power of books. As Dr. Seuss once said, "The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." At Waters Agency, we couldn't agree more. Whether it's for pleasure or business, books and podcasts provide us with a great escape and a new perspective. In this blog, we share some of the reads and podcasts that the team is currently enjoying, ranging from non-fiction to mystery novels, and from tech news to financial advice. So, join us and discover some new recommendations.
Hollie Kenney is reading The Four Agreements, Don Miguel Ruiz.
“In The Four Agreements, don Miguel Ruiz reveals the source of self-limiting beliefs that rob us of joy and create needless suffering. Based on ancient Toltec wisdom, the Four Agreements offer a powerful code of conduct that can rapidly transform our lives to a new experience of freedom, true happiness, and love. The Four Agreements are: Be Impeccable With Your Word, Don't Take Anything Personally, Don't Make Assumptions, Always Do Your Best.” (GoodReads)
Tracey-Ann Mee is reading The Stellenbosch Mafia: Inside the Billionaire’s Club, Pieter Du Toit.
“Author Pieter du Toit begins by exploring the roots of Stellenbosch, one of the wealthiest towns in South Africa and arguably the cradle of Afrikanerdom. This is the birthplace of apartheid leaders, intellectuals, newspaper empires and more. He looks at the collapse of Steinhoff: what went wrong, and whether there are other companies at risk of a similar fate. He examines the control these men have over cultural life, including pulling the strings in South African rugby.” (GoodReads)
Jessica Luhrman is reading Bury Your Dead, Louise Penny.
“Chief Inspector Armand Gamache is on break from duty in Three Pines to attend the famed Winter Carnival up north. He has arrived in this beautiful, freezing city not to join the rebels but to recover from an investigation gone hauntingly wrong. Still, violent death is inescapable―even here, in the apparent sanctuary of the Literary and Historical Society, where one obsessive academic’s quest for answers will lead Gamache down a dark path…” (GoodReads)
Sylvie Picard is listening to The Trillionaire Mindset, Ben Cahn and Emil DeRosa.
“The Trillionaire Mindset highlights the funnier side of the business, political, and financial world. Analyzing popular stocks and political happenings, Ben and Emil dive deep into the hilarious underbelly of our economy.” (Trillionaire Mindset)
Beth Ellis is listening to Financial Diet Podcast, Chelsea Fagan.
“Founder and host Chelsea Fagan sits down every week with experts, influencers, and everyone in between to talk about money in a way they never have before. From divorce lawyers to reality TV stars to CFPs, The Financial Confessions combines the tactical money strategies we need with the revealing, vulnerable money confessions we all want to hear.” (Financial Diet Podcast)
Declan Waters is reading Discipline is Destiny, Ryan Holiday.
“In Discipline is Destiny, Holiday draws on the stories of historical figures we can emulate as pillars of self-discipline, including Lou Gehrig, Queen Elizabeth II, boxer Floyd Patterson, Marcus Aurelius and writer Toni Morrison, as well as the cautionary tales of Napoleon, F. Scott Fitzgerald and Babe Ruth. Through these engaging examples, Holiday teaches readers the power of self-discipline and balance, and cautions against the perils of extravagance and hedonism.” (GoodReads)
